Championship Bound! Women's Basketball Cruises to 70-48 PL Semifinal Win over Boston University

WASHINGTON - Behind an incredible performance from senior Emily Fisher that included a career-high 25 points, American University women's basketball dominated from start to finish in a 70-48 win over Boston University (17-14) in the semifinals of the Patriot League Championships.

The second-seeded Eagles (22-8) will host fourth-seeded Bucknell (23-8) in the championship game on Sunday, March 13 at noon on CBS Sports Network.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • American is now 15-0 under head coach Megan Gebbia in Patriot League Tournament games played in Bender Arena. To make it 16-0 the Eagles will have to break another streak – of losing postseason games to Bucknell. The Bison are 3-0 against AU in postseason play since 2016.
  • Hitting 11-of-14 from the free throw line and 6-of-10 from the field, senior Emily Fisher exploded for a career-high 25 points and was the lone Eagle to score in double figures.
  • Fisher added a team-best five rebounds and a team-best four assists to her impressive stat line.
  • Senior Taylor Brown tied her career high with four steals while also scoring nine points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field.
  • In all, 10 players put points on the board for American, and the Eagles shot 41.1 percent to the Terriers' 35.4 percent.
  • The Eagles, who committed just 12 turnovers, were able to capitalize on 21 turnovers on BU, leading to a 21-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • BU was led by Sydney Johnson and Maren Durant with 13 and 12 points, respectively, with Durant adding a game-high eight rebounds.
  • Three Terriers fouled out of the game in what was a very chippy contest with a total of 23 fouls on BU and 24 on the Eagles, who had one player foul out and two others finish with four individual fouls.
  • For the 21st time this season, the Eagles led in bench points, 25-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Boston University took a 2-0 lead, but it would prove to be the Terriers' only lead of the contest. The Eagles used an 8-0 run to surge ahead, and they never looked back.
  • With a three-pointer in the final minute of the first quarter, sophomore Riley DeRubbo gave AU its first double-digit lead of 17-7.
  • The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field for the opening quarter and held BU to 28.6 percent.
  • After the Terriers scored the opening bucket of the second quarter, AU held them scoreless for more than five minutes while scoring 12 straight points for a 29-9 lead. Fisher closed out that run with back-to-back buckets including her first of two three-pointers.
  • BU made up a little bit of ground in the final minutes of the half, but the Eagles took a commanding, 31-16 lead into the break.
  • Senior Jade Edwards converted an old-fashioned three-point play to start the second half strong, and the Eagles went 6-for-7 at the line in third quarter. By the end of it, AU was up 49-29.
  • Fouls slowed the game down significantly in the fourth quarter, but American ultimately surrendered no ground to BU. The Terriers twice came to within as few as 11 points, but never cut the margin to single digits.
  • In the final two minutes, AU went 5-for-6 at the line to thwart any hope of a comeback by BU. Both Fisher and sophomore Kayla Henning drained late three-pointers to push the gap even wider in favor of the Eagles.
