Men’s Basketball Travels to Lehigh on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – American University men's basketball remains on the road to face Lehigh in the penultimate game of the regular season on Wednesday night.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American (8-20, 4-12) is fighting for either the No. 9 or No. 10 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament as its currently tied with Bucknell with a 4-12 record in conference play.
  • Last time out, the Eagles fell to Colgate 63-49 on Monday night in Hamilton, N.Y. AU held Colgate to its second-lowest scoring output of the season but couldn't find a rhythm offensively.
  • American's defense has improved significantly over the course of Patriot League play. Johnny O'Neil ranks second in conference play with 1.4 blocks per game, while Elijah Stephens (fourth) and Stacy Beckton Jr. (sixth) are among the league leaders in steals per game with 1.5.
  • Beckton Jr. is creeping up the all-time scoring list, now sitting at No. 27. Based on his scoring average, he has a chance to move as high as No. 26 by the end of the season. Additionally, he currently has 97 career blocks, which is tied for sixth in program history. He is one swat away from moving into sixth place on AU's all-time career blocks list and three away from being the sixth Eagle with 100 career blocks.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT LEHIGH
  • Two big Loyola runs pushed the Greyhounds to a 69-42 victory over Lehigh (10-18, 8-8 PL) on Sunday in Baltimore. Lehigh only managed to shoot 29.8 percent from the field in the loss.
  • Lehigh currently sits in a tie for fourth place in the Patriot League with an 8-8 mark. They are tied with Loyola but the Greyhounds hold the head-to-head tiebreaker, putting Lehigh at the No. 5 spot in the standings for now.
  • The Mountain Hawks have been sharp from long-range all season, ranking second in the conference by shooting 38.0 percent from 3-point range. Jeameril Wilson (42.5 percent) and Evan Taylor (41.2 percent) lead the 3-point assault for Lehigh and both are ranked top six in the conference for 3-point field goal percentage.
  • Taylor and J. Wilson are Lehigh's heartbeat, ranking No. 1 and No. 2 on the team in both scoring and rebounds. Taylor averages 13.0 ppg and 5.6 rpg, while Wilson averages 10.9 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Tayor exploded for 25 points on 10-of-16 from the field the first time these teams met this season.
