Men’s Basketball Enters Final Week of Season against Colgate on CBS Sports Network

WASHINGTON – After a two-game stint at Bender Arena, American University men's basketball hits the road for back-to-back contests beginning with Patriot League leader Colgate on CBS Sports Network Monday night.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American (8-19, 4-11 PL) enters the final week of Patriot League play needing some help to earn a home game in the Patriot League Tournament. The Eagles currently sit in ninth in the standings with a 4-11 PL record and are two games behind Lafayette for eighth.
  • Last time out, AU put together its most complete performance of the season in a resounding 83-67 victory over Army on Saturday afternoon.
  • All five Eagles scored in double-figures for the first time since Feb. 12, 2020 led by Colin Smalls with 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
  • American scored a season-best 50 points in the paint against the Black Knights and outrebounded the league leader in the category, 33-31.
  • Stacy Beckton Jr. is creeping up the all-time scoring list, now sitting at No. 28. Based on his scoring average, he has a chance to move as high as No. 26 by the end of the season. Additionally, he currently has 97 career blocks, which is tied for sixth in program history. He is one swat away from moving into sixth place on AU's all-time career blocks list and three away from being the sixth Eagle with 100 career blocks.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT COLGATE
  • Colgate (17-11, 13-2 PL) turned a three-point halftime deficit into a 19-point win over Boston University with a monster second half on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders avenged a late January loss to the Terriers with their ninth consecutive win, 72-53.
  • The Raiders sit atop the Patriot League standings by three games and needs just one more win to secure its third Patriot League regular season championship in four seasons.
  • Nelly Cummings led four in double figures with 18 points. Jack Ferguson scored 15 points on 4-of-8 from behind the arc, Ryan Moffatt had 12 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists while Keegan Records posted 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.
  • Tucker Richardson reached another milestone in the victory, becoming the first player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, 500 rebounds, and 400 assists. He's just the fourth player in Patriot League history to achieve the feat.
  • Colgate is in the final week of a stretch that features 12 games in 27 days in February. The Raiders had four games postponed due to COVID in early January.
