BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second straight week, freshman
Geoff Sprouse has been named the Patriot League GEICO Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Additionally, Sprouse was named the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week on AUEagles.com.
The PL weekly award makes him the first Eagle to be named the rookie of the week consecutive times since the 2018-19 season when Jacob Boonyasith received the award back-to-back weeks.
Sprouse scored a career-high 25 points, leading all scorers, in the Eagles' 88-62 win over UAlbany on Tuesday for their fifth straight win. He went a near-perfect 10-for-11 from the field and 5-for-6 from beyond the arc in the game, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc in the second half.
He is averaging 11.7 points per game, 1.9 assists per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. His 25 points on Tuesday is the third most points scored in the league so far this season.
Junior
Matt Rogers received a Patriot League Player of the Week honorable mention nod this week for his efforts in the Eagles game against UAlbany. Rogers recorded a season-high 20 points while shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, 1-for-1 from beyond the arc, and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
American is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Mount St. Mary's. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
