Volleyball Defeated in Four Sets at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Despite a 19-kill, 13-dig effort from senior Zeynep Uzen, the American University volleyball team dropped a four-set match at Bucknell by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 17-25 and 22-25.

NOTABLE
  • With six losses in a row including five conference matches, the Eagles have dropped to seventh place in the Patriot League standings and will need to finish out strong to have a second life in the PL Tournament.
  • Four players reached double figures in digs, led by 22 for Rachael Bennett.
  • Inbal Peleg had a double-double along with Uzen, adding 11 assists to 15 digs.
  • Onuchi Ndee and Carlie Fikse put down eight kills and seven kills, respectively, with Fikse adding a team-best six blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With 17 kills to AU's nine in the first set, Bucknell was able to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 win.
  • The Eagles battled back from an 8-3 deficit to tie the first set at 9-9 and keep it pretty tight the rest of the way, but the Bison strung together a few points at the end to put it away.
  • American never trailed in the second set, at one point leading 20-12 before getting the 25-19 win.
  • The Eagles hit .244 to Bucknell's .091 in the second set and got an impressive eight kills from Uzen in just that set alone.
  • After a 12-12 tie in the third, the Bison used an 8-1 run to take a commanding lead. Ndee got a couple back for the Eagles in the final stretch, but Bucknell took the set 25-17.
  • An early 4-4 tie was the last in the fourth set as the Bison surged ahead, but the Eagles showed plenty of fight before it was over.
  • Four straight points later got AU within three at 16-13, and American cut its deficit to two at 20-18 after another 4-0 run.
  • With a lucky break for a kill, Peleg had the Eagles down by just one at 23-22 before an AU error and a Bucknell kill ended the match with the Bison on top, 25-22.
UP NEXT
  • American will head to Lehigh with a quick turnaround as the Eagles will face the Mountain Hawks at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
