Men's Basketball Set for Short Trip to Georgetown on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – American University men's basketball will make the short drive across D.C. on Wednesday for an 11:30 a.m. game against Georgetown University at Capital One Arena. The Eagles are coming off their second-straight win on Saturday and are looking to keep the momentum going to pick up their first win over Georgetown since 1982.

  • American enters Wednesday's game coming off its second-straight win, defeating NJIT 58-53. Sophomore Elijah Stephens led the Eagles with 14 points with junior Matt Rogers right behind him with 12 points.
  • The Eagles are led so far this season by junior Colin Smalls who is averaging 11.7 points per game and Rogers who is averaging 10.5. Both Rogers and junior Johnny O'Neil lead AU in rebounds, averaging 5.5 per game.
  • O'Neil is leading both the Eagles and the Patriot League in blocks with 12, averaging 3.0 per game. Freshman Jermaine Ballisager Webb ranks sixth in the league in blocks with three, averaging 1.0 per game.

  • Georgetown enters Wednesday game with a 3-2 record, recently coming off a close 69-62 win over La Salle in the Jamaica Classic on Sunday.
  • The Hoyas have four athletes who are scoring in double figures. Sophomore Primo Spears leads the way averaging 18.3 points per game, followed by sophomore Brandon Murray and senior Qudus Wahab with 14.5 points per game and junior Jay Heath with 11.0 points per game.
  • Georgetown brought in several transfers, including LSU transfer Murray, Duquesne transfer Spears, UConn transfer Akok and Arizona State transfer Heath. The Hoyas also added freshmen Denver Anglin and D'Ante Bass for the 2022-23 season.
  • After Wednesday's game, Georgetown will stay at home to host UMBC on Saturday, Nov. 26 at noon.
