Men’s Soccer Hosts Lafayette Sunday Afternoon

WASHINGTON – American University men's soccer welcomes Lafayette College Saturday to Reeves for a 12 p.m. game as both teams are still in the hunt to secure a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. American is coming off a 1-0 Patriot League loss to Boston U. and Lafayette is coming off a 4-0 loss to nonconference opponent Drexel. Sunday is also the programs senior day and Jack Green, Mattias Cooper, Damian Searchwell, Jerry Zouantcha, Ben Severe, and Max Wright will be honored in a pregame ceremony.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • American leads the all-time series 16-3-6.
  • The last meeting between the Eagles and Leopards was on Oct. 23, 2022 in Easton, Pa. Lafayette won the meeting 2-1 in overtime.
  • The last time Lafayette came to Reeves was Oct. 27, 2018. The game ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American enters Saturday's game with a 6-4-5 overall record and a 3-2-2 mark in Patriot. League play.
  • The Eagles are coming off a 1-0 loss to Boston U. on Sunday, Oct. 23 in. Boston.
  • Earlier in the week, American defeated Delaware, 3-2, to close out nonconference action. Sophomore Dilane Zouantcha, junior Robbie Matei and junior Evan Schweickert all netted goals in the win.
  • Schweickert was named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week on Monday. This is the third time this season he has been named the league's Midfielder of the Week. Junior Mike Bleeker, junior Ethan Boyle and freshman Troy Elgersma have also all received Patriot League weekly honors this season.
  • Sophomore Dominic Dominguez has been the squad's starter in goal for the majority of the season. He has played in seven games and boasts an 0.87 goals against average, 26 saves and three shutouts.
  • American currently sits in third place in the league standings with 11 points, one point behind Boston U., and one point in front of both Lafayette and Loyola Maryland.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT LAFAYETTE
  • Lafayette enters Saturday's game with a 8-5-3 overall record and a 2-2-3 mark in Patriot League play.
  • The Leopards are coming off a 4-0 loss to Drexel on Tuesday night in their final nonconference test of the season. Their last Patriot League game was on Saturday, Oct. 22 against Loyola Maryland. The Leopards and Greyhounds battled to a 1-1 draw. Junior Hale Lombard netted the Leopards lone goal in the 10th minute, off an assist from senior Marcos Kitromilides.
  • Kitromilides leads the Leopards in goals with seven. Five other Leopards have found the back of the net so far this season, Lombard (6), sophomore Lawrence Aydlett (4), junior Eoin Martin, junior David Mizrahi and freshman Sebastian Tis each have registered at least a goal for Lafayette.
  • Senior Will Echeverria leads the team in assists with seven.
  • Senior goalkeeper Alex Sutton had made 14 starts in goal this season, recording 33 saves and five clean sheets.
  • The Leopards currently sit in a two-way tie with Loyola Maryland for sixth in the Patriot League standings. Both squads hold a 2-2-3 conference record and 9 conference points.

  • AU Athletics has partnered with Gregorio's Trattoria to provide an enhanced concessions menu for all home weekend men's and women's soccer contests at Reeves this fall.  The gates to Reeves Field, and the Gregorio's grill station will open one hour prior to kickoff at each remaining Saturday and Sunday afternoon home games this fall. 
  • Fans can enjoy Gregorio's favorites from the grill station to the left of the Reeves Field bleachers including menu selections of freshly grilled burgers, Italian sausage and peppers, all-beef hot dogs, and a selection of cold Pepsi and Gatorade beverages.
