Women’s Soccer Closes Out 2022 Home Slate Sunday on Senior Day

WASHINGTON – American University women's soccer welcomes Colgate on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a 1 p.m. game. Sunday is Senior Day for the program and the squads nine seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • Colgate leads the all-time series 15-4-4.
  • The last meeting between the Eagles and Raiders was on Oct. 16, 2021 in Hamilton, N.Y. The two sides battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw. The last two meetings between the squads have ended in draws.
  • The Eagles last win over Colgate was on Oct. 29, 2011 in Hamilton, N.Y. American won the meeting by a 1-0 final.
  • The last meeting in Washington, D.C. was on Sept. 28, 2019. The game ended in a 2-2 double overtime tie.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American enters Sunday's game with a 1-5-6 overall record and a 0-2-2 mark in Patriot League play.
  • The Eagles are coming off a 1-0 loss to Navy on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
  • American has had seven different Eagles find the back of the net so far this season. For four of those seven Eagles, their goals were first career goals. Junior Izzy Kadzban netted her first collegiate goal at South Florida on Aug. 25, senior Cailin Panacek recorded hers at Old Dominion on Sept. 11, and both sophomore Jordan Mahony and sophomore Olivia Simmons netted theirs on Sept. 25 against Lafayette at Reeves.
  • Simmons currently leads the team in assists with two.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Kato has started all the Eagles games this season between the pipes, recording 44 saves and three shutouts.
  • After Sunday's game, American will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 22 to take on Lehigh. 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT COLGATE
  • Colgate enters Sunday's game with a 2-9-3 overall record and a 2-3-1 mark in Patriot League action. The Raider's two league wins of the season have come over Boston U., 1-0, and Army, 1-0.
  • The Raiders are coming off a 0-0 tie with Lehigh on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
  • Ari Bezanson and Ally Giovino lead Colgate in goals with two each. Ellie Stokes, Maddie Cappilo and Emily Amano each have also netted a goal for the Raiders this season.
  • Stokes leads the Raiders in assists with a team-high two.
  • On Monday, Bezanson was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
  • After Sunday's game, Colgate will welcome Lafayette to Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m.  
SENIOR DAY ENHANCED CONCESSIONS FOR WEEKEND HOME GAMES
  • AU Athletics has partnered with Gregorio's Trattoria to provide an enhanced concessions menu for all home weekend men's and women's soccer contests at Reeves this fall.  The gates to Reeves Field, and the Gregorio's grill station will open one hour prior to kickoff at each remaining Saturday and Sunday afternoon home games this fall. 
  • Fans can enjoy Gregorio's favorites from the grill station to the left of the Reeves Field bleachers including menu selections of freshly grilled burgers, Italian sausage and peppers, all-beef hot dogs, and a selection of cold Pepsi and Gatorade beverages.
