Men's Soccer Hosts James Madison Tuesday for a Nonconference Test

WASHINGTON – American University men's soccer looks to keep its winning momentum going as James Madison comes to Reeves on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for a 2 p.m. nonconference test. The Eagles are looking for their first win over the Dukes since 1999.

  • American enters Tuesday's game with an 5-3-3 overall record and a 3-1-1 mark in Patriot League play.
  • The Eagles are coming off a big 3-0 win over Patriot League opponent Colgate on Saturday to move themselves to the top of the Patriot League standings. All three of American's goals came in the second half to hand Colgate its first league loss of the season.
  • Sophomore Dilane Zouantcha recorded his first goal of the season in the 50th minute to start off American's explosive second half. Junior Ethan Boyle netted the Eagles' other two goals in the game in the 61st minute and the 67th minute.
  • Eight different Eagles have found the back of the net so far this season. Junior Robbie Matei, sophomore Zemi Rodriguez, junior Evan Schweickert, and junior Ethan Boyle each have recorded two goals so far while freshman Troy Elgersma, senior Mattias Cooper, senior Jack Green and sophomore Dilane Zouantcha each have one goal.
  • Elgersma leads the team in assists with three.
  • American comes into Tuesday's game with a four-game unbeaten streak, beating Bucknell, Army and Colgate and drawing 1-1 with Loyola Maryland.
  • After Tuesday's game American will return back to Patriot League play for a Saturday afternoon matchup at Reeves against Holy Cross. Game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT JAMES MADISON
  • James Madison enters Tuesday's nonconference game with a 4-6-1 overall record and a 0-2-1 mark in Sun Belt play.
  • The Dukes are coming off a 2-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday, snapping their three-match winless streak.
  • Redshirt junior Evan Southern leads the Dukes in goals, recording three so far this season. Five other Dukes have found the back of the net for James Madison. Freshman Kevin Larsson leads the team in assists with three.
  • In goal, freshman Sebastian Conlon leads the Dukes' goaltenders appearing in 10 games while recording 38 saves and holding a 0.717 save percentage.
  •  Tuesday's game marks the last nonconference test for JMU. They will return to Sun Belt action for the remainder of their schedule, next slated to face Georgia Southern on Friday, Oct. 14 in Statesboro, Ga.
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
  • Juniors Mike Bleeker and Ethan Boyle were named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday morning.
  • Bleeker and Boyle join freshman Troy Elgersma and junior Evan Schweickert in receiving Patriot League weekly honors this season. Elgersma was named the league's Rookie of the Week on Sept. 26 and Schweickert was named the league's Midfielder of the Week on Sept. 26 and Oct. 3.
