WASHINGTON - The momentum from a five-set win on Friday night did not carry over into Saturday's matches for American University volleyball, as the Eagles (3-3) suffered a pair of three-set losses to UNC Greensboro and Norfolk State.

NOTABLE

• Junior Inbal Peleg was the lone Eagle to reach double figures in kills in either match, finishing with 13 against UNC Greensboro along with nine assists and seven digs.
• Defensively, graduate student Chiara Bosetti recorded an impressive 22 digs in just three sets vs. UNCG, while junior Zeynep Uzen tallied 18 digs.
• Bosetti added 18 more digs vs. Norfolk State, while Uzen was the team leader with nine kills.
• The Eagles posted more kills than Norfolk State in the second match of the day, but committed too many errors to make that difference count.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• AU fought off three set points in the opening set against UNCG to tie it up at 24-24, but back-to-back blocks by the Spartans put the Eagles down 1-0.
• In the second set, AU made a comeback to get within two at 21-19, but the Spartans closed on a 4-0 run.
• AU once again fell behind early in the third set, but unlike Friday night, was unable to find the necessary offense to make a run.
• After falling 25-21 in the first set to Norfolk State, the Eagles looked to be turning things around with a strong showing in the second. 
• AU led by as many as six at the midway point, and still led at 20-19, but NSU closed it out on a 6-0 run to put the Eagles down 2-0 for the match.
• That result knocked some wind of the sails for American, and the Eagles couldn't get much going in the third set, ultimately losing 25-16.

NEXT UP

• The Eagles will return home to host UMBC at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
