Late Holy Cross Goal Forces Tie For Women's Soccer

WASHINGTON – Tate Jordan scored the go-ahead goal for American University women's soccer in the 59th minute, but Holy Cross equalized near the end of regulation, forcing overtime and an eventual 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.

  • Natalie Oliver picked up her first assist since also recording a helper against Holy Cross the last time these teams played on Oct. 6, 2019.
  • The Eagles pick up a point in the Patriot League standings with the result.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • American had the best chances of the first half, firing off five shots including two on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes.
  • The Eagles got on board for the first time since their win against George Washington on Sept. 5 with Jordan's goal in the 59th minute.
  • Oliver raced up the sideline from her right back position and placed a great ball that bounced into the box in front of the keeper before Jordan bumped the ball into the net with her stomach.
  • Julia Kato picked up a nice save in the 76th minute to keep Holy Cross off the board for the time being.
  • In the 86th minute, Brooke Robinson played a free kick from a dangerous spot just beyond the 18-yard box.
  • She sent it in low and it bounced through the defense and snuck past Kato for the equalizer.
  • In the first overtime, American had three shots, including two great chances from Alysa Vazquez and Brooke Steel that were saved by Holy Cross.
  • In the second overtime, Jordan nearly picked up the game-winner with a great run into the box, but her shot was saved and the game ended in a tie.
