Women’s Soccer Drops 3-0 Contest at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The first road test for American University women's soccer since Sept. 5 proved to be a challenge as Bucknell controlled the match from start to finish in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night. With losses by Loyola Maryland and Boston University, Bucknell moved into sole possession of first place in the Patriot League.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bucknell controlled the offensive pace for much of the first half, firing off eight shots and drawing five corners in the frame.
  • Paige Temple put the Bison on top in the 18th minute after Petie Nesseta sent a short cross up into the box. Temple fought for position with Giuliana Capraro and flicked the volley into the net past Julia Kato.
  • Rylee Donaldson scored her league-leading sixth goal of the season in the 27th minute after receiving a ball from Kenar Gelman up the right side and cutting around Kato, who was out of the net trying to make a play. Donaldson then fired a shot into an empty net to put Bucknell up 2-0.
  • Fisayo Iluyomade had a decent look in the 44th minute, but her shot went wide.
  • Just after halftime, Emily Smith had American's best scoring chance of the game. Her rocket shot rang the crossbar from just outside the 18-yard box in the 47th minute.
  • In the 50th minute, Abby Gearhart extended Bucknell's lead by winning the ball at the top of the box and firing a shot that hit the right post and deflected into the net for a goal and a 3-0 lead.
  • The second half was played in a downpour and the game was delayed by lightning in the 78th minute.
  • After about a 45-minute weather delay, the two teams resumed playing the final 12 minutes.
  • Cailynn Adelman hit the crossbar in the 88th minute, coming dangerously close to finding the upper corner for a goal.
