WASHINGTON - Two candidates were both so deserving of the title of
GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week, and the only fair decision was to give the honor to both. Congratulations to our two GEICO Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 19-25,
Mimi Watts of swimming and diving and
Emma Vinall of lacrosse.
Watts, a freshman, earned three wins over two days, all of them in school record time, at the Patriot League Challenge hosted by Bucknell. On Saturday, she won the 200 fly after setting a school record time of 1:59.71 in the prelims earlier in the day. On Sunday, Watts broke her own school record twice in the 100 fly, ultimately winning in 53.71 which meets the NCAA "B" standard. Twenty minutes before that race, Watts won the 50 free in a school-record time of 23.15, breaking the record set previously by Dory Isaacs in 2009.Â
Vinall, a senior and one of the most storied players in program history, scored seven goals including two in the final minute in the Eagles' game vs. Navy. She has now solidified herself as the top offensive player of all-time with program records of 162 goals and 187 points during her 44 games as an Eagle. Vinall also tallied one assist for a total of eight points in the contest, which was Senior Day for the Eagles.
