WASHINGTON - For the second week in a row, junior
David Coly of American University men's soccer has been named the
GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week. During the week of April 12-18, Coly led the Eagles to their first Patriot League Championship since 2004.
Coly, who earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors, became the PL Tournament MVP by week's end. In the semifinals and for a second game in a row, he scored a late goal that clinched a 3-2 win at Loyola Maryland to advance the Eagles to the Patriot League Championship.
Once there, Coly scored early and teammate
Nick Dimitrijevic got the golden goal in double overtime for the Eagles' 2-1 championship victory at No. 24 Lafayette, previously undefeated.Â
American will play Jacksonville in the NCAA First Round on Thursday, April 29 at Wake Forest University.
