WASHINGTON - Despite the cold, snowy, and icy conditions, sophomore Russell Sullivan of the American University men's cross country team was able to capture a first-place finish on Feb. 20 at the Loyola Invitational, and has been named the GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts.

Sullivan helped the men place second in a three-team field that featured fellow Patriot League foes Lafayette and Loyola. The men switched from the original 8,000-meter course to 6,000-meters due to conditions. Sullivan paced the field in 22:15, seven seconds ahead of the second finisher. This is the sixth time that Sullivan led the men's team on the cross country course and his second overall victory after he led the men's team to a win with a first-place finish at the 2019 Leopard Invitational.

Next up for the cross country teams is the Patriot League Championship which will be hosted by Lafayette on Friday, March 5.
