INSIDE THE SERIES
  • Mason has won 14 of the last 15 in the series with AU's last victory coming on Nov. 9, 2018 (78-75) at EagleBank Arena.
  • The two foes battled as members of the CAA from 1985-2000 and the teams have battled six times in non-conference action since then.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • After a tough road stretch of seven losses, American has responded with back-to-back wins over Saint Francis and Mount St. Mary's. Most recently, the Eagles prevailed in an overtime game in Emmitsburg, Md., over the Mountaineers, 72-66.
  • Initially thrust into the lineup due to injuries to the frontcourt, Matt Rogers has excelled on the offensive end the last month. He leads the Patriot League and is tied for the school record in field-goal percentage (65.8 percent). The sophomore has reached double-figures in five of his last seven games, including a 30-point outburst against Howard (12/4).
  • Stacy Beckton Jr. is on milestone watch during his fifth season as an Eagle. He is 70 points away from becoming the 33rd player to reach 1,000 career points. He currently has 89 career blocks, which ranks ninth in program history. He is three swats away from moving into eighth place on AU's all-time career blocks list and 11 away from being the sixth Eagle with 100 career blocks.
  • Connor Nelson has returned to prime form with excellent performances in his last two games. He dealt with an ankle injury earlier this season that caused him to miss three games and limited him in some other ones. He scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting against Mount St. Mary's and 12 points and seven rebounds against Saint Francis (PA). The sharpshooter is connecting on 46.8 percent from the field, including 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.
  • In his ninth season at AU, head coach Mike Brennan has already made moves on the all-time wins list. With the win over William & Mary on Nov. 12, he became the fifth AU skipper to reach 100 wins. The win over Mount St. Mary's pushed Brennan into fourth place on the all-time wins list for AU men's basketball, passing David Carrasco, who had 101 victories from 1956-62. Eight more wins would elevate Coach Brennan past Ed Tapscott (1982-90) for third place.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT GEORGE MASON
  • Mason is riding a two-game win streak, which includes an 80-67 victory at SEC foe Georgia Saturday in Athens. Mason shot 51.9 percent in the game and limited the Bulldogs to 33.9 percent.
  • Junior Josh Oduro led the Patriots with his second double-double in the past three games. He notched 20 points, 11 rebounds and a career-best six blocks. It marked his sixth 20+ point effort of the season. Oduro is one of just two players in the country this season to average 18 or more points, shoot 58 percent or better from the floor and tally at least 1.5 blocks per game.
  • Mason shot 42.3 percent (11-26) from deep at UGA and made 10+ 3-pointers for the first time since Nov. 19. The Patriots rank 34th nationally with 9.7 3pt FG made/game, the most in school history by a sizable margin. Mason dished out a season-best 23 assists on 28 field goals made at Georgia. It marked the highest assist total by a Patriot team since a Feb. 22, 2012 game at Northeastern (24).
