INSIDE THE SERIES
  • In a series that dates to the 1979 season, American has a slight 14-11-9 edge over Navy.
  • AU holds a 4-1-2 record over the Mids since 2015, including a 3-1 win six days ago at Reeves Field.
  • AU and Navy have met just once in the PL Tournament. The Eagles advanced on penalties after a 0-0 tie on Nov. 11, 2011.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • David Coly and Nicolas Blassou were named First Team All-PL when the league announced postseason awards on Friday. They are AUs first First Team selections since 2016. Evan Schweickert and Zemi Rodriguez earned spots on the Third Team. Rodriguez is AU's first freshmen to ever be named All-PL.
  • Since a 3-0 loss at Loyola on Oct. 12, the Eagles have rattled off four straight PL wins and are unbeaten in their last five matches. In their last 10 matches, the Eagles are 7-1-2 as they appear to be peaking at the right time.
  • Dominic Dominguez has played exceptionally well since taking over the starting keeping role on Sept. 25. The freshman leads the league with a .789 save percentage and ranks third with a 0.95 GAA.
  • American is hosting a PL Tournament match for the first time since 2016.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT NAVY
  • After a loss to American to end the regular season, Navy was bumped to the No. 5 seed in the PL Tournament and a road trip to Lehigh for the quarterfinals. The Mids dispatched the Mountain Hawks 1-0 and advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2013 when they won the conference title.
  • The 1-0 victory over Lehigh marks the 10th shutout of the season for Navy, tying the most for a single-season in program history. The Midshipmen also recorded 10 shutouts during the 2013 and 2019 seasons.
  • Matt Nocita was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year for the third time while Jacob Williams was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year when the conference office announced postseason awards on Friday.
INTERNATIONAL EAGLES
  • With its remarkable location in Washington, D.C., American has long attracted students from all around the globe. The men's soccer program is no different.
  • The program boasts players from England (Malachy McGovern), Senegal (David Coly), Cameroon (Jerry Zouantcha), Sweden (Viggo Sjoberg), and Norway (Mattias Cooper).
  • Several others on the team have immediate family ties internationally, which makes for a diverse group of guys playing the beautiful game.
OH, BROTHER
  • Jerry Zouantcha returned to AU for a fifth season this fall and gets a nice treat as a result. He will get to play alongside his younger brother, Dilane.
  • Dilane scored his first career goal against Old Dominion in his first career game, while Jerry waited until his sophomore season to find the back of the net.
  • AU Men's Soccer has a proud history of brothers, most notably the Kuykendalls. Kris, Shawn, and JP all played for the Eagles in the early 2000s, leading AU to the NCAA Tournament in 2001, 2002, and 2004.
  • Their father, Kurt, was an All-American goalkeeper for AU in the 1970s and is enshrined in the Cassell Hall of Fame alongside his late son, Shawn.
TRANSFER MARKET
  • During the spring 2021 season, in year two under Zach Samol, the Eagles relied heavily on impact transfers.
  • David Coly joined AU after spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Washington, while Nicolas Blassou returned to the DMV after beginning his career at Kentucky. Both players were named All-Conference in the first season in the nation's capital.
  • Ben Severe dealt with injuries during his time at Villanova but played a valuable role defensively for AU down the stretch last season. He should continue making an impact in his senior season.
  • Mattias Cooper is the final transfer on AU's roster, joining the program after two seasons at Elon. He was Third Team All-CAA a season ago after leading the team in points (6), goals (2) and assists (2).
