Late Goal Dooms Women's Soccer at Boston

BOSTON – In a battle for position in the Patriot League standings, American University women's soccer surrendered a late goal to fall to league-leading Boston University 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.  

QUICK NOTABLES
  • Julia Kato picked up six saves on 14 shots faced.
  • Natalie Oliver and Alysa Vazquez had the lone shots on goal for the Eagles.
  • AU falls to 2-2-1 in conference play, while BU moves to 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • American had the first scoring chance in the 4th minute but Oliver's shot was saved by Gretchen Bennett.
  • Kato picked up four of her six saves in the first half as AU's defense withstood BU's offensive pressure.
  • Vazquez lined up a dangerous free kick in the 52nd minute, but her shot was saved by Celia Braun to keep the game tied.
  • The Terriers finally got on the board in the 74th minute when Eileen Solomon chipped a long service pass into the box up and over the reach of Kato.
  • AU was unable to generate a scoring chance in the final 15 minutes and Boston hung on for its fourth straight win.

  • American was unable to generate any corner kicks, while the Terriers had three corner kick opportunities.
  • Ashley Molz was booked for a yellow card in the 64th minute.
