Women's Soccer Stymied by Navy, 2-0

WASHINGTON – American University women's soccer was unable to climb out of an early deficit against Navy on Wednesday afternoon and ended up falling 2-0 to the Mids.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 6th minute, Victoria Tran sent a long ball in to the box to Alexa Riddle. Riddle was able to dribble around Julia Kato and the AU backline and fire a goal into an empty net.
  • American settled down after that and had a great chance of their own in the 18th minute. Tate Jordan had a shot deflect off the crossbar but was offsides so the shot was negated.
  • Asia Horne placed her first shot of the season on frame in the 32nd minute, but Navy was able to pick up the save and keep AU off the board.
  • Navy picked up an insurance goal in the 82nd minute as Riddle blasted a shot to the far post for her second goal of the match. Chloe Dawson was credited with the assist after sending a long ball into AU territory.
  • AU was unable to generate any second-half shots until the 85th minute.
  • Cailynn Adelman had AU's best chance to score but her header was knocked away by a diving Mattie Gallagher in the 87th minute.
