Women’s Soccer Draws at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Abby Dillon scored her first career goal early in the second half to even the score against Colgate, but American University women's soccer couldn't find the back of the net again, settling for a 1-1 tie on a rainy Saturday night at Beyer-Small Field.

QUICK NOTABLES
  • Julia Kato set a new career-high with 13 saves to help keep AU in the game.
  • Her 13 saves mark the most for an AU women's soccer goalkeeper since Ryleigh Brown nabbed 15 saves against Boston University on Sept. 16, 2018.
  • AU picked up a point in the Patriot League standings and currently sit in a three-way tie for the No. 6 seed with Army West Point and Colgate. All three teams have eight points and identical 2-3-2 records in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colgate jumped right out and scored in the 5th minute after Hannah Pinkus put the ball in the top right corner for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Raiders controlled possession for most of the first half and held AU to only two shots in the period.
  • The second half was an entirely different story as the Eagles drew their first two corner kicks of the game just three minutes into the second half.
  • Dillon made a long run into the box and fired a shot to the top left corner for her first career goal in the 50th minute.
  • Both teams had several chances to go ahead in the second half as they combined for 11 shots on goal in the period (five for AU, six for Colgate).
  • American's best chance to get the game-winner might have came in the first overtime period. Asia Horne put a great header toward the net that hit the crossbar, then a Colgate defender's head, before bouncing around dangerously in front of the net and eventually getting cleared out.
  • Kato made two saves in the overtime periods to keep the game tied.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Colgate held a 26-11 advantage in shots taken.
  • AU drew a season-high six corner kicks.
  • 21 total fouls were called on the night.
UP NEXT
  • The Eagles will return to Reeves Field on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 PM to host Lehigh on Senior Day.
  • The regular season will end with a home match against Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 12 PM.
  • As a reminder, admission is free for all AU women's soccer home games.
