WASHINGTON - After career-high performances in leading American University volleyball to a 2-1 week including its third and fourth straight Patriot League victories, junior Zeynep Uzen has been named the GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 18-24.

Uzen exploded for a career-high 30 kills in the Eagles 3-2 win vs. Loyola Maryland on Oct. 23, and came two shy of that total one day later with 28 kills in a four-set win vs. Navy. She led AU in kills in all three of its matches, and recorded her 10th and 11th double-doubles of the season.

For the week, Uzen averaged 5.38 kills per set, 2.77 digs per set and 0.77 blocks per set (10 total). She single-handedly accounted for 37 percent of AU's total points (77 of 206).

Volleyball plays two more matches at home before its last road trip of the regular season. The Eagles will be back in Bender Arena to host Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, and Lafayette at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
