Women’s Soccer Hosts Army West Point for Alumni Weekend and District Day

WASHINGTON – American University women's soccer looks to get their first home conference win of the season against Army West Point on Saturday.

SETTING THE SCENE
  • Saturday serves as Phil Reeves District Day and Alumni Weekend for AU women's soccer.
  • A special pregame student fanfest will feature free Blue Crew t-shirts, free Robeks smoothies and free Gregorio's Pizza.
  • At halftime, AU women's soccer alumni in attendance will be recognized.
  • Admission is free for all spectators.

INSIDE THE SERIES 
  • American is looking for their first victory over Army since Oct. 11, 2009, a 2-1 win at Reeves Field.
  • Of the 22 meetings between the programs, they have tied a remarkable 10 times. That is the most ties in an all-time series against any opponent for AU women's soccer.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN 
  • Tate Jordan was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and an assist in a dramatic 4-3 win over Lafayette on Saturday. She is the first AU women's soccer player to receive the honor since Nov. 2, 2015 (Kelly Donovan).
  • Four goals is the most scored by AU since a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross on Oct. 13, 2018.
  • Alysa Vazquez picked up her first three assists of the season on Saturday night. She is the first AU women's soccer player to record three assists in a game since Sara Perlman on Oct. 5, 2013 against Bucknell and just the fifth player to do so in program history.
  • Marsha Harper picked up her first Patriot League win as head coach of AU women's soccer with the victory over Lafayette. She is now in search of her first victory on Reeves Field.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ARMY 
  • Army was predicted to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll after an impressive 4-1 season in the spring.
  • Through three conference games, the Cadets are 1-0-2. A 3-3 tie at Lehigh and a 1-1 tie against Loyola sandwich an impressive 5-1 victory at Holy Cross.
  • Lauren Drysdale earned a spot on the Preseason All-PL team after garnering First Team All-League honors last season. She has started all 11 games in the midfield and has two assists.
  • Tracy Chao is in her second season at the helm of Army women's soccer. Chao came to West Point after spending four seasons as the head coach of Metropolitan State University of Denver. She boasts 15 years of coaching experience at the Division I, Division II and professional ranks.
FULL STAFF 
  • Coach Harper added two new coaches to her squad for this fall season, rounding out her staff in year two.  
  • Matt Freibaum was brought on as an assistant coach to work with the attacking unit, among other duties. He joins AU after two seasons at Wofford.  
  • Martina Loncar is serving the team in a volunteer assistant role while she pursues a Master's degree at AU. A four-year letterwinner at Colgate, her experience in the Patriot League will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for the Eagles. 
SISTER, SISTER 
  • The Mahony sisters are the first siblings to play for AU Women's Soccer since 2000, and just the fourth pair ever. 
  • Olivia, a senior, and Jordan, a freshman, played for The Pennington School for one season, although Jordan played only sparingly as a high school freshman. 
  • The most heralded sister duo in AU Women's Soccer history is the Pike sisters. Liz holds every scoring record in program history and is in the Cassell Hall of Fame, while Julia is fourth in program history in career assists with 15. 
  • Liz played for AU from 1990-93, while Julia was on the team from 1992-96. 
ENHANCED CONCESSIONS FOR SATURDAY'S MATCH
  • AU Athletics has partnered with Gregorio's Trattoria to provide an enhanced concessions menu for all home weekend men's and women's soccer games this fall.
  • Fans can enjoy Gregorio's favorites from the grill station to the left of the Reeves Field bleachers including menu selections of freshly grilled burgers, Italian sausage and peppers, hot dogs, and a selection of cold Pepsi and Gatorade beverages.
