WASHINGTON - After a record-setting performance in a triple overtime win, senior
Jamir Harris has been named the GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-24.
Harris drained a school-record-tying nine three-pointers in the Eagles' 81-79 triple-overtime win at Loyola Maryland on Jan. 24, making the ninth of those in the final second for the win. He finished with a career-high 33 points, after scoring a then-career-high 23 points in AU's 71-70 home win vs. Loyola day earlier. Harris played 53 minutes in the triple overtime game, one day removed from playing 38. His 53 minutes is the most for an AU player since Donald Grant also played 53 minutes against UNC-Wilmington on Jan. 20, 1992.
In the Jan. 23 win, Harris shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and also drained 7-of-8 free-throw attempts, including two to give American a three-point lead with 7.6 seconds remaining.
Men's basketball will be back in action vs. Lafayette on Jan. 30 and 31, starting with a 2 p.m. home game on Saturday, Jan. 30.
