WASHINGTON -- The race for Patriot League Tournament seeding is heating up and American University men's basketball opens the final two-week stretch with a home tilt against Navy on Wednesday night inside Bender Arena.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- American overcame a five-point deficit in the final six minutes to top Navy earlier this month.
- The Eagles have won 22 of the 35 meetings in Washington, dropping the last matchup in Bender on March 7, 2019 in the PL quarterfinals (60-56).
- AU is looking for its first season sweep over Navy since the 2016 season.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
- The Eagles had a three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday against Bucknell.
- Sa'eed Nelson made a season-high 12 field goals on his way to a game-high 28 points, and passed Willie Jones (1957-60) for third place on American's all-time scoring list.
- Sa'eed is the only active NCAA D-I men's basketball player, and the first in Patriot League history, to have 2,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, and 500 career assists.
- Jamir Harris leads the Patriot League in free-throw percentage (93.0). He is also currently first in single-season FT percentage at AU.
- Home has been friendly for American, as the Eagles are 8-3 in Bender Arena this season and 6-1 in conference play.
- The Eagles are among the PL leaders in several categories, including steals (1st, 7.5), turnover margin (2nd, +0.80), and blocks (3rd, 3.4/game).

- Sa'eed now stands at 2,008 career points, six away from passing Brian Gilgeous (1989-93) and moving into second place on AU's career scoring list. To move into first place, Sa'eed now needs 49 points.
- Looking at the Patriot League scoring list, Sa'eed has a chance to move up several spots over the next few games. He currently sits in seventh place after passing Kyle Wilson of Army West Point (2012-16), who had 2,001 career points.
- Only 67 points separate Sa'eed from moving into third place on the PL scoring list.
- Sa'eed now stands at 503 assists and needs four helpers to pass Mike Sampson (1984-1988) and move into third place on AU's career assists list.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT NAVY
- The Midshipmen have dropped four of their last five games, including a 62-54 loss against American earlier this month and a 77-54 loss to Boston U on Saturday.
- Richard Njoku scored a career-high 12 points in the BU game, the only player to reach double-figures for the Midshipmen.
- Navy is set to play three of their last four PL games on the road. Overall, Navy is 4-7 on the road this season, including 3-3 in PL play.
- The Midshipmen are stout defensively, holding opponents to a PL-best 63.2 ppg.
- Navy also leads the league with 11.7 offensive rebounds per game.
- Cam Davis leads the team with 16.4 ppg and 2.6 apg.
- Evan Weick ranks second in the PL by shooting 63.4 percent from the field.
