WASHINGTON - American University men's basketball will head back to New York for the second time in a week when they take on Army West Point on Wednesday night.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- American swept the series last season, winning a tight one, 71-68, at home before winning on the road in late February, 77-66.
- From 2015-18, Army took eight of the nine matchups between the two programs.
- A win for the Eagles would mark their longest winning streak (three) over the Black Knights since they won six straight from Feb. 17, 2010 to Feb. 29, 2012.
- When American first joined the Patriot League in 2001-02, they rattled off a series-best 11-game win streak from Jan. 12, 2002-Feb. 15, 2006.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American snapped a three-game losing skid with an exciting victory over Boston University on Sunday, 67-63. The match-up featured seven ties and 16 lead changes.
- Sunday's performance was the first time this season that the Eagles have won a game in which they trailed at halftime.
- Sa'eed Nelson recorded the first double-double by an American player this season and nearly picked up a triple-double against the Terriers. Nelson's remarkable stat line was as follows: 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
- Jamir Harris scored all of his team-high 19 points in the second half, going 4-for-8 from three-point range in the process.
- American ranks near the top of the Patriot League in several categories, including: 3-point FG% (2nd, 35.2), steals (1st, 7.2/game), and scoring offense (4th, 70.2 ppg).
- Sa'eed Nelson, who is fifth all-time at AU with 1,774 points, is also ranked fourth in NCAA Division I with 2.92 steals per game.
- The Eagles have used the same starting five (S. Nelson, Harris, Beckton Jr., Boonyasith, Gasperini) for 12 straight games.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
- The Black Knights hosted Colgate on Monday night on CBS Sports Network, falling 70-65.
- Army held a 33-28 lead at halftime against the Raiders, but Colgate came out of the gate strong in the second half and made clutch free throws down the stretch to take the game.
- In Army's Patriot League opener against Bucknell, Matt Wilson became the eighth player in school history to reach 700 career rebounds. He leads the league with 8.3 rpg.
- Army excels on the glass, ranking second in the PL by averaging 35.8 rebounds/game.
- The Black Knights also play unselfishly, ranking second in the PL by dishing out 16.7 assists/game, led by Tommy Funk with 6.0 apg. With six more assists, Funk will become just the second player in Patriot League history to record 600 career assists.
OTHER GAME NOTES
- With two more steals, Nelson would move into third place on the career steals list for AU and pass Mark Nickens, who had 231 steals from 1980-83.
- The Eagles are looking for their first winning streak of the season as they are currently 0-4 in games following a win.
- This will be the first Wednesday game for American so far this season.
