Men's Basketball Opens Second Half of Patriot League Play at Lafayette

WASHINGTON - American University men's basketball is set to begin the second half of Patriot League play with a road trip to Pennsylvania to face Lafayette on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Lafayette has topped American in six straight games with the last AU win coming on Jan. 18, 2017 in Washington, D.C. The Eagles won that matchup, 71-57. 
  • The Leopards emerged victorious in Easton the last time these two teams played by scoring a game-winning basket with three seconds left to win, 70-68. 
  • The first time Lafayette and American squared up was back on Feb. 2, 1962. American won, 84-72, in D.C.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN

  • After a 77-56 win over Lehigh on Monday night, AU has won four of its last five games.
  • Sa'eed Nelson had a season-high 26 points, which marked his fourth straight 20-point performance. 
  • The Eagles came out sluggish, but once Yilret Yiljep checked in, momentum shifted in American's favor. YY recorded his first career double-double with career-highs in points (15) and rebounds (10). 
  • Stacy Beckton Jr. also played well as he scored a season-high 16 points. He went a career-best 9-for-9 from the free-throw line and has made 14 straight freebies dating back to Holy Cross on Jan. 18, 2019
  • The Eagles have used the same starting five for 19 straight games. 
  • Jamir Harris leads the Patriot League in free-throw percentage (95.3). He has also made 17 straight freebies since Jan. 5 against Boston U.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT LAFAYETTE

  • Lafayette traveled to Hamilton, N.Y. on Wednesday night and ended Colgate's 16-game home winning streak with an 80-78 victory. 
  • The Leopards have handed the Raiders both of their league losses this season. 
  • Lafayette ranks second in the league by scoring 73.1 ppg and lead the league by shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range. 
  • Justin Jaworski leads the team and ranks third in the PL with 16.8 ppg.
