Women's Soccer Draws Colgate 2-2

WASHINGTON — Emily Smith and Samm Francucci both scored in the first half, but Colgate battled back and forced a 2-2 double-overtime tie with American on Saturday. 

Postgame Notes

  • Smith put American up 1-0 with a free-kick goal in the 27th minute as she sent a ball over the wall and bent inside the near bar. 
  • American added to its lead in the 34th minute as Francucci two-touched a pass from Tate Jordan and over the head of Colgate keeper Kelly Chiavaro. 
  • Minutes after AU's goal, Colgate replaced Chiavaro in goal with Sophia Boggs who brought life back to the Raiders. 
  • In the 41st minute, Ruby Diodati scored on a free-kick from outside the box, and she picked the outer corner of the wall and past AU keeper Amy Krotine
  • The Raiders tied the contest in the 77th minute after a scramble in front of the net saw the ball deflect off Sage DiGiulio after Leah Lewis took the initial shot.
  • In overtime, neither team gained enough control to end the contest, but Krotine was forced to make three more save. 
  • Krotine finished with eight saves. 
  • Boggs added two saves for Raiders.
