Callander Earns GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week

Scott Callander made the most of his final appearance at the Patriot League Championships, setting a school record and scoring the most individual points by an American University competitor last weekend, earning GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week.

Callander, a senior from McLean, Va., helped lead the Eagles to a seventh-place finish in the men's team standings at the 2019 meet, hosted by Bucknell.

On Friday, Callander broke his own school record in the men's 100-yard butterfly, finishing sixth in the championship final. He went 48.48, lowering his school record by 0.01 second. He scored 13 individual points in that event.

Callander also placed 12th in the 200 fly on Saturday, finishing the meet with 17 individual points. He was just ahead of junior diver Anna Derrow, who scored 15 points for the Eagles.

American competes in its final meet of the season this Wednesday in the annual Eagle Invitational, beginning at 3:15 p.m.
