WASHINGTON - After setting the American University volleyball program's all-time digs record on November 1, senior
Kristen Largay had another milestone in her sights: 2,000 digs. By recording 20 digs in AU's NCAA First Round game vs. Towson on Dec. 6, she completed her career with a whopping 2,012 digs overall.
Largay, an All-Patriot League Second Team selection this season, now holds the Patriot League digs record in addition to AU's. She is the first player in league history to reach 2,000 digs. The previous PL record was held by Jackie Adlam of Colgate with 1,989 digs. As a senior, Largay tallied 20 or more digs in seven of the Eagles' matches, and finished with 520 digs overall to rank fourth in a single season, just behind her third-place record of 527 digs set in 2017. Largay's 4.21 digs per set average smashes the previous AU record of 3.66 digs per set.
"Kristen's had a phenomenal career," said AU head coach
Barry Goldberg. "I've always been impressed with her tenacity and fighting spirit. A lot of good liberos have that, and Kristen certainly came in here with it immediately. I can even recall back to her first matches and the first weekend she played, and she played incredibly. You could see that she was someone who went after it. I'm really happy for her to leave as the all-time dig leader not only for the school but for the Patriot League as well. We're going to miss her, but this is part of sports and collegiate athletics. She's been great for us and she has a place with us certainly in our hearts."
