WASHINGTON - The final non-conference home game for American University men's basketball has the Eagles (4-5) hosting the Stony Brook Seawolves (7-5) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21. AU is welcoming students from a number of area schools for Elementary School Day.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- AU is 4-5 heading into its final two non-conference games, and coming off an 82-76 win at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday.
- Senior Sa'eed Nelson, who is fifth all-time at AU with 1,718 points and leads the Eagles with 17.3 points per game, led all players at Mount St. Mary's with 19 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Nelson currently ranks fourth among all players in NCAA Division I with 3.25 steals per game.
- Junior transfer Jamir Harris ranks third on the team with 12.1 points per game and hit 8-of-8 free throws in the win at Mount St. Mary's. He has a team-best 22 three-pointers this season.
- The Eagles lead the Patriot League with 7.5 steals per game and rank second in 3-point percentage at .375.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
- Stony Brook is coming off a big game at defending national champion No. 9 Virginia. The Seawolves hung with the Cavaliers but came up short, 56-44.
- The Seawolves have played a tough non-conference slate that includes losses to No. 12 Seton Hall, Providence and Hofstra.Â
- 2018-19 All-America East pick Elijah Olaniyi leads Stony Brook with 18.5 ppg. Also back this year for the Seawolves are 2018-19 Sixth Man of the Year Andrew Garcia and Defensive Player of the Year Jeff Otchere.
- Stony Brook is under new leadership, with former Kent State and Bradley head coach Geno Ford taking the reins this season.Â
