WASHINGTON — Year seven of the Mike Brennan era tips off on Tuesday evening at the Times Union Center as the American University men's basketball team visits Siena.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

• American was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll. The Eagles finished the 2018-19 season tied for fourth place and hosted their first PL Tournament Quarterfinals since 2014. 
• American returns PL Preseason Player of the Year senior Sa'eed Nelson and classmate Mark Gasperini. The duo combined to average 30.1 points per game or 42 percent of AU's total points. Nelson and Gasperini are two of three players to have played 50 or more career games for the Eagles. Junior Stacy Beckton Jr. has played 50 games through two seasons. 
• Beckton Jr. is the third highest returning scorer for the Eagles and improved from 4.4 PPG as a freshman to 10.0 PPG as a sophomore.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS

• Sophomore Jalen Pickett was picked as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year after he was selected as the Rookie of the Year in 2018-19. The Saints were chosen sixth in the MAAC Preseason Poll. 
• Under first-year head coach Carmen Maciariello, the Saints are looking to finish above expectation just as they did last season under former head coach Jamion Christian when the Saints finished the season tied for second after an 11th place prediction. 
• Siena welcomes transfers Elijah Burns from Notre Dame and Donald Carey from Mount St. Mary's to go along with five newcomers.
