BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The dominance continued for American University volleyball as the Eagles (18-7, 11-1) did not drop a set for a fourth straight match, sweeping Lehigh (13-13, 6-6) on the road by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19 for their 11th win in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU, one of the top serving teams in the nation, posted 10 aces to Lehigh's one. Four of those came from junior Olivia Wassner, currently ranked fourth in NCAA Division I, with another three being served up by junior Chiara Bosetti.
- Both freshman Zeynep Uzen and junior Helena Elbaek reached double figures in kills. Uzen added eight digs to a team-best 12 kills while Elbaek finished with 10 kills.
- Bosetti led the team in digs with 10, and senior Kristen Largay tallied eight, bringing her AU-record total to 1,877 for her career.
- After an easy first-set win, the Eagles got down 5-0 early in the second before coming all the way back and taking the lead with a 6-0 run. Near the midway point, a 7-0 run made it 18-11 in favor of AU and the Eagles held at least a four-point advantage the rest of the way.
- Lehigh stayed with AU for half of the third set, but after a 15-15 tie the Eagles pulled away. Both Wassner and Bosetti recorded aces in the final few points to seal the victory for AU.
UP NEXT
- Two more road matches are in store for AU next week, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
