WASHINGTON - Two matches, two sweeps for the American University volleyball team this weekend, as the Eagles (10-7, 3-1) followed up a 3-0 win over Lehigh with a 3-0 win vs. Bucknell (12-4, 1-3) by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• AU displayed some of its strongest hitting of the season, committing just five errors through the first two sets and only 11 overall. For the match, the Eagles hit .327 compared to Bucknell's percentage of .187.
• Defense was also key for AU, with the Eagles tallying 55 digs to Bucknell's 39. Senior Kristen Largay averaged 6.0 digs per set to finish with 18, her highest total in a three-set match so far this season.
• The first set saw AU jump out to a 7-2 lead before Bucknell closed in and later had it tied at a number of points, including 19-19. From there, the Eagles came up with three kills and two aces in the final eight points to take the set.
• Starting off where she finished a day earlier, senior Aleksandra Sochacka knocked down four kills with zero errors to lead AU in the opening set.
• The second set was all AU, and the Eagles used an early 11-0 run to lead 14-3. The hitting percentage was .444-.081 in favor of AU for the set, and the Eagles won easily by a score of 25-14.
• Bucknell made it a game all the way through the final set, which saw nine ties and three lead changes. The final tie came at 20-20 before freshman Zeynep Uzen and junior Helena Elbaek both knocked down two kills in the final stretch to seal the victory.
• Uzen and Elbaek finished with 13 kills and 11 kills, respectively, to lead all players. Sochacka also finished in double figures with 10.
• With 11 digs to go with her 11 kills, Elbaek notched her fifth double-double of the season.
• Junior Olivia Wassner tallied a match-best 40 assists and also led AU with two blocks

• AU will play just one match next week, hosting Navy at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
