WASHINGTON, D.C. – Aleksandra Kazala finished with 18 kills and Helena Elbaek added 16 as American University outlasted Loyola Maryland, 3-1, in a Patriot League volleyball match played Wednesday.

The Eagles won 26-24, 25-27, 25-18, 26-24 in a match that included 38 ties and 16 lead changes combined in the four sets.

The match was rescheduled from last Saturday when a transformer fire created a power issue on the AU campus.

AU remained in first place with a 4-0 league mark and evened its overall record at 9-9. The Eagles have won four straight and five of their last six. The Greyhounds fell to 6-11 and 1-3.

GAME NOTES

• Jeannie Westney finished with nine kills and eight blocks for the Eagles, while Shannon Webb added eight kills and 13 digs.

• Five AU players finished with double figures in digs, led by 19 from Kristen Largay.

• Kazala (18 kills, 12 digs) and Kennedy Etheridge (50 assists, 10 digs) each posted double-doubles for the Eagles, who hit .259 for the match.

• The 50 assists for Etheridge matched a season-high.

• Junior Ann Ernst led three Greyhounds with double-figure kills with 22. Haley Puddy had 14 and Abby Hamilton added 13 kills for Loyola, which got 30 digs from Katie Forsythe.

NEXT UP

American continues its homestand this weekend with a pair of Patriot League matches. Holy Cross comes to Bender Arena on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. before the Eagles play host to Colgate on Saturday at 4 p.m.

On Friday, the Eagles will host their annual Bender Pink Out match. In conjunction with Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Kappa, AU Athletics will host the event in honor of the fight against breast cancer. The team will wear pink warmup shirts, which will also be available for sale in the Bender Arena lobby.
