Kazala with Career Day to Lead @AU_Volleyball Over Lafayette

WASHINGTON - A milestone performance from Aleksandra Kazala highlighted the American University volleyball team's three-set win over Lafayette on Saturday, as the junior became one of 13 Eagles' players to reach the prestigious 1,000-kill mark in her career.

The Eagles rise to 13-7 overall, 5-1 in the Patriot League, after beating the Leopards 25-15, 25-20, 13-25. Lafayette now sits at 3-15 overall and 1-5 in league play. This was the fifth straight win for AU, seventh in the last eight matches, as they now own the No. 2 spot in the league behind Navy.

Kazala had a game-high 14 kills in the first two sets of the of the match before resting in the third and contributed another five digs and one service ace. The Debica, Poland, native entered the match ranked tenth in NCAA Division I for kills per set (4.72) and 12th for total kills (288).

The sophomore class also had some highlights out of the match, with Shannon Webb and Vela McBride tallying nine kills and eight kills, respectively, without any attack errors. McBride joined junior Cheyenne Orsi and freshman Helena Elbaek with a game-high four blocks for the day. 

Sophomore Kristen Largay tallied a game-high 20 digs and three service aces to help lead the team while junior Kennedy Etheridge contributed a game-high 26 assists.

The Leopards were led by seven kills off the bench from Christian Luhnow. Tori Smith and Sonia Musso each added six while Julia Howard led the team with 13 kills and Lexie Caraveo had a team-high 11 digs.

The Eagles will continue their four-game homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when they host crosstown rival George Washington at 7 p.m. Tickets to all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. General admission seats are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
