Eagles Face Road Trip to Army West Point, Holy Cross

WEST POINT, N.Y. – With the first match of a three-match road swing complete, the American University volleyball team faces a weekend full of Patriot League action this Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles (12-6 overall) swept Delaware State on Wednesday and will make the trip to Army West Point on Friday at 7 p.m. in a matchup of teams that are unbeaten so far in Patriot League play. AU then travels to Holy Cross on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The American-at-Army West Point match will be telecast on the American Sports Network. The Eagles and Black Knights are both 2-0 in league play, a half-game behind Lehigh, which has opened 3-0.
 
AU is led offensively by sophomore outside Aleksandra Kazala, who averages 4.34 kills per set. Freshman Shannon Webb is second in kills (2.47 per set) and leads the team with 26 service aces.
 
Sophomore setter Kennedy Etheridge averages 9.47 assists per set, while junior middle Loren McKenzie leads the blocking stats with 1.02 per set. American has won five of its last six matches despite being down to eight healthy players due to various injuries.
 
Army West Point is 10-6 overall coming into the match with AU. The Black Knights have a balanced offensive attack, with four players averaging more than two kills per set. That group is led by junior outside Amber Clay (2.66 k/s) and junior middle Vanessa Wesley. Army's setter is freshman Haven Bethune, averaging 9.29 assists per set.
 
Holy Cross, which hosts Loyola Maryland on Friday, comes into the weekend 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the league after losing six straight matches.
 
The Crusaders have the Patriot League leader in kills per set in senior outside Mandy Sifferlen (4.84 k/s). Freshman setter Lizzie Webb dishes out 8.70 assists per set.
 
American returns home next week for three Patriot League matches – Tuesday against Navy, Friday against Lehigh and Saturday against Colgate. Tickets for all AU home matches are available online at www.aueagles.com/tickets.
