Box Score WASHINGTON – The American University men's soccer team dropped a local non-conference match to Georgetown, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Shaw Field.
The Eagles got out to an early start after Chris Fanet found Joe Iraola down the right wing. Iraola took on a defender 1-on-1 and placed it easily past Hoya keeper Mitchell Auer in the eighth minute.
Georgetown bounced back only six minutes later with senior Brett Campbell heading in a cross to the back post.
American got out to a hot start again in the second half, but the Hoyas took the lead in the 52nd minute when Brendan McDonough flicked the ball on to Jon Azzinnari to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Georgetown scored its third goal in the 66th minute when Arun Basuljevic scored on a PK.
American will head to Boston U. to take on the Terriers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
