Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Aleksandra Kazala and Shannon Webb finished with 10 kills apiece and Samantha Snyder had five service aces, as American University swept Bucknell, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 in the Patriot League volleyball opener for both teams Friday.
The Eagles improved to 10-6 overall after winning their fourth match in five outings. The Bison fell to 2-11 and have lost nine straight.
American held an advantage at the net defensively, as four Eagles finished with four blocks, led by five from
Loren McKenzie. AU held the Bison to just .112 hitting in the match, led by 10 kills from Blake Buchholz.
Bucknell led through most of the first set, until two aces by Snyder pulled the Eagles even at 19-19. She served four more points, pushing AU to a 22-20 lead they would not relinquish.
AU held leads of 12-6 and 17-10 before Bucknell got rolling late. Down 21-14, the Bison rallied within 24-21 before the Eagles were able to preserve the win.
There were eight ties in the final set, with the last coming at 23-23. But kills from
Vela McBride and
Aleksandra Sochacka finished off the set and the match.
