Men's Soccer Shut Out at No. 23 West Virginia, 3-0

MORGANTOWN, W.V. — No. 23 West Virginia scored twice in the second half to defeat the American University men's soccer team, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match. 

Despite the loss, American played well and outshot the Mountaineers, 17-10, and controlled corner kicks, 8-4. 

"We played a tough West Virginia team tonight," said head coach Todd West. "In run of play we were good. When we decide to play for each other as a team, we'll be very tough to beat." 

Lucas Belanger made three saves along with one defensive save by the AU defense. 

The hosts got on the board 11 minutes into play on an unassisted goal by Felix Angerer.

WVU added two goals in an eight-minute span early in the second on goals by Rushawn Larmond and Griffin Libhart.

Joe Iraola led the Eagles with three shots. 

The Eagles will host Colgate on Saturday to begin Patriot League play at 4 p.m.
