WASHINGTON – A set of marathon volleyball matches and a team-best offensive output has earned Aleksandra Kazala the first GEICO – AU Student-Athlete of the Year Award for the 2016-17 academic year.
Kazala, a sophomore outside hitter from Debica, Poland, led the Eagles with 66 kills over their four matches last weekend, with each match going the full five sets.
After coming into the season with a career-high of 15 kills in a match, Kazala surpassed that number in three of the four matches. She had a career-best 25 kills in AU's season-opening win over Georgetown.
American travels to the UMES Tournament on Thursday and Friday before returning home on Sept. 6 to face Coppin State.
