Men's Soccer Drops Home Exhibition Match, 2-1, on Friday to UMBC

WASHINGTON – The American University men's soccer team dropped its only exhibition match of the season, 2-1, to UMBC on Friday afternoon at Reeves Field.

The Eagles started out strong with a goal in the first ten minutes of the match. Freshman defender Tim Neumann took a free kick that went off the post and in past UMBC goalkeeper Billy Heavner. Neumann scored with his first shot in an AU uniform.

UMBC then responded scoring two second-half goals to take the lead. The first came off a corner kick that was flicked on by Retrievers' sophomore Tyler Ward. With ten minutes left in the game, Tre McCalla scored the game-winning goal for UMBC.

The Retrievers were picked third in the American East preseason rankings and won both of their preseason exhibitions.

American starts its regular season campaign next Friday at 4:30 p.m. against George Mason in the Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup at Reeves Field.
