Box Score EASTON, Pa. — Three first-half goals propelled the American University men's soccer team over Lafayette, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
American (6-4-3, 3-1-0 PL) gained three important points in the league standings after falling to Loyola last week.
"Great team win," said head coach Todd West. "(Dale) Ludwig and (Michael) Cherry were sensational. It's nice to follow up a loss with a complete team win on the road. Now we prepare for a very tough Army West Point team."
The offense didn't take long to find the back of the net, as Tim Neumann scored three minutes into the game off a pass by Panos Nakhid. The play developed off a free kick by Nakhid and a short pass to Neumann who finished to the far left side.
American answered with its second goal in the 29th minute off a corner kick by Danny Kaiser that found Dale Ludwig with open space up the middle.
The Eagles finished their offense peppering in the final minute of the half on Garrett Muzikowski's goal off a counter which led to a rebound goal.
AU put 19 shots on the board in the contest with eight on target. Lafayette keeper Brad Seeber made five saves. Lafayette finished with eight shots.
For American, Lucas Belanger recorded his third PL shutout in four tries and finished the contest with four saves.
American controlled play from the corner flags with a 7-3 edge over the Leopards.
The Eagles will get a week to rest before meeting Army West Point next Saturday at Reeves Field.
