Box Score EASTON, Pa. – Shannon Webb finished with a game-high 13 kills to lead American University to a 25-12, 25-20, 25-18 sweep over Lafayette in a Patriot League volleyball match on Friday.
The Eagles won their 10th consecutive match and 13th in the last 14 to improve to 19-6 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the league.
The Leopards fell to 3-17 overall and 1-9 in the PL.
Webb led the Eagles in kills for the sixth time this season and posted double figures in kills for the 10th time this year.
Elizabeth Walsh had nine kills to lead Lafayette, with Katie Kidder finishing with 10 digs.
"Tonight we had a lot more positives than negatives," said AU head coach Barry Goldberg, who won his 696th career match. "I thought we came out strong in the first set. I was happy to see that, as we are on the road, they played a few days ago, and we had over a week since our last match.
"Our serving was not consistent tonight, so we need to attack a bit better from the service line. Our attacking went reasonably well tonight. It was a good sign that Shannon played well tonight, as she had three or four tough save balls that she found a way to score."
AU never trailed in the first set and held a 9-6 lead when it scored five straight points, including four on the serve of Samantha Snyder. The lead grew to 18-7 and 20-9 as the Eagles earned the win.
The last of seven ties in the second set came at 15-15 when Snyder again went to the service line. She again posted four straight to put AU ahead 19-15 in a decisive run. AU led by at least three points the rest of the set.
There were eight ties early in the third set when the Eagles took control. An 8-1 run put American ahead 20-12 and the Eagles remained in control the rest of the way.
AU travels to Bucknell on Saturday for a 5 p.m. match.
The Eagles' next home match is on Friday, Oct. 28 when they host Holy Cross. Tickets to all AU home volleyball matches are available at
