WASHINGTON — Tim Neumann and Joel Hart scored four minutes apart as the American University men's soccer team blanked Army West Point, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Reeves Field. 

Four cards were issued in a very physical contest as both sides battled for 90 minutes with the hopes of jumping Loyola (Md.) in the Patriot League standings by the end of the day.

American finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots and while both sides battled for possession in the opening half, it was Amerian who struck in the 73rd minute on a scramble in front of the net after Army failed to clear the ball. Garrett Muzikowski was able to find Neumann on the far post for the goal.

Minutes later with AU on the defensive end, Dale Ludwig sent an Army forward to the ground creating space to clear the zone. With the ball now in the midfield, Panos Nakhid sent a pass to Hart to give AU the two-goal lead.

Lucas Belanger made four saves for the Eagles and Justin Stoll had five for Army West Point.

American will face the top team in the nation on Tuesday when the Eagles take a short commute over to College Park to face No. 1 Maryland.
