Box Score BOSTON — Panos Nakhid and Joe Iraola scored 20 minutes apart in the second half to lead the American University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Boston U. on a wet Saturday afternoon.
American (5-3-3, 2-0-0 PL) dominated the play to the tune of a 23-5 edge in shots as the Eagles peppered BU keeper Matt Gilbert with 12 shots on goal. Gilbert made 10 stops with Joel hart recording five shots on goal and Garrett Muzikowski and Nakhid adding two each.
"As a group, it was our best performances of the season," said head coach Todd West. "This was a team effort. All field players that traveled got on the field."
American took nine shots in the first 45 minutes but it was the 14 shot output in the second that got the ball rolling. Nakhid's goal came in the 50th minute off a crisp pass by Kibu Mbaluku.
Nakhid added another point on Iraola's goal. In the 70th minute, Iraola beat Gilbert on a 1v1 chip shot from 10 yards out.
Lucas Belanger made one save for his second straight PL clean sheet. The Eagles have not allowed a goal in league play in 180 minutes.
American finished with nine corner kicks.
When discussing the importance of Wednesday's home PL match against Loyola, West said, "Same kind of pressure and mindset. Loyola is also undefeated. It is a bigger game than it might have been."
The contest against Loyola is set for 3 p.m. at Reeves Field.
