Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – American University rolled to a three-goal lead by halftime and earned a 4-0 victory over Penn in a men's soccer match Sunday at Reeves Field.
Four different Eagles had goals and six different players hit the scoresheet as AU has started the season with a 4-0 record. The Quakers fell to 0-1-1 overall.
AU's offensive onslaught began early, as the Eagles amassed a 10-2 edge in shots by halftime.
Panos Nakhid put AU on the board in the 16th minute, dribbling in from outside the box and booting home the score to the right corner.
Less than five minutes later,
Vinny Barone sent in a shot that went into the net off a Penn defender.
With 4:23 left before intermission,
Nick Sifrin converted a header from close range on an assist by
Joe Iraola.
After halftime,
Liam Robley sent a through ball into the box that
Joel Hart turned into a goal in the 50th minute.
The shutout is the second straight for AU's defense and goalkeeper
Dylan Hobert, who made three saves.
American will host the Capitol Cup next weekend when Hofstra comes to Reeves Field on Friday at 4:00 and Fairleigh Dickinson tests the Eagles on Sunday at 1:00.
