Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. — A pair of first-half goals couldn't settle the score as the American University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Princeton University in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.
American is now 6-3-1 on the season while Princeton is 3-2-1.
AU outshot the Tigers 21-9 and held a 5-1 edge in overtime. American had multiple chances throughout the game, but Princeton keeper Ben Hummel made six saves to keep the game knotted at one.
The Au defense held Princeton out of the box for a majority of the game and allowed two shots on goal in 110 minutes of action.
Princeton took the lead early in the first half, as Daniel Bowkett sent a long ball into the box that was headed in by Thomas Sanner after AU keeper Dylan Hobert came out to play the ball.
Panos Nakhid tied the game in the 36th minute on an absolute blast from 30 yards out.
The Eagles went into the locker room with a 7-3 edge in shots and had numerous chances to take the lead.
In the second half, American had nine shots and then picked up three more in the first overtime and two in the final frame.
The Eagles will host Boston U. on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The game will also be a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the 1985 NCAA runner-up team.
