Box Score WASHINGTON — Felix De Bona scored the lone goal four minutes into the contest to give the Boston University Terriers a 1-0 victory over the American University men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon under heavy rain and windy conditions at Reeves Field.
American falls to 6-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the Patriot League. With the one-goal win, BU is now 6-2-1 and 1-0-1 in the league.
The high winds and rain caused by Hurricane Joaquin played a large role in the outcome of the game. A slick, but fast field made it difficult for crisp passes and crosses into the box.
BU's Matt Gilbert made eight saves and held the AU offense in check. On the other side, Dylan Hobert made two saves for AU and was not asked to carry the workload that his counterpart did.
American outshot BU, 21-5, and took seven corner kicks.
Dale Ludwig and Joel Hart led the Eagles with two shots on goal each.
During the half, AU recognized members of the 1985 NCAA Finalist team celebrating its 30th anniversary season.
American returns to action on Wednesday against Loyola and then back at home next Saturday to take on Lafayette on Senior Day.
