CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — American University men's soccer junior Michael Cherry was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. He was also selected as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cherry helped the Eagles secure three more points in the standings with a 3-0 shutout of Bucknell at home. The junior aided the backline to help preserve the clean sheet on Saturday, holding the Bison to just four shots and only two on target. In addition to supplying defensive coverage, Cherry also added two shots in the victory, including one on goal.
Behind Cherry and the rest of the defensive unit, The Eagles have not allowed a goal in 563 minutes. Cherry has been on the field the entire scoreless streak.
Three points are on the line this Wednesday, when the Eagles face Navy at Reeves Field at 3:30 p.m.
