CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Finishing the regular season with a perfect five awards in five races, cross country freshman Kassidy Ayres was selected as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 18.
Ayres, a distance standout from Blauvelt, N.Y., earned the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Runner of the Week Award from the league on Monday. She shared weekly honors with senior
Joshua Ellis, who won the M-F Athletic PL Male Runner of the Week, and
Matthew Rainey, who was the M-F Athletic PL Male Rookie of the Week.
Ayres won the Leopard Invitational on Saturday, capturing the second individual title of her freshman season. She covered the 6-kilometer course at Lafayette in 22:00.9.
She has now won two league Female Runner of the Week awards to go along with her three Female Rookie of the Week honors.
Ellis won his second Male Runner of the Week honor after besting a 133-runner field to win the Leopard Invitational. His 8K run of 25:26.5 helped the Eagles to a second-place team finish, behind only 28th-ranked Columbia.
Rainey, a freshman from Brentwood, Tenn., placed 14th overall and fourth on the team for the Eagles, who have now earned a full dozen weekly honors from the Patriot League in 2015.
American will have next weekend off in preparation for the Patriot League Cross Country Championships, to be held Oct. 31 at Colgate University.
